What?!Princess Diana and Prince Charles Wanted a Daughter, Which She Claims Ruined Their Marriage
That explains it. In a chilling resurfaced Princess Diana interview with Andrew Morton, who wrote Diana: Her True Story — In Her Own Words, the late royal claims that her marriage to Prince Charles turned ugly after the couple didn’t have the daughter that Charles “always” wanted. Instead, the couple welcomed two sons, Prince William in 1982 and Prince Harry in 1984.
“He wanted two children and he wanted a girl,” she explained, adding his apparent disappointment when he saw their second son, Harry, was a boy at birth (Diana kept the gender a secret up until then). Diana claims Charles said, “Oh God, it’s a boy,” followed by, “and he’s even got red hair.”

And unfortunately, things were never the same again after they became a family a four. “Charles and I were very, very close to each other the six weeks before Harry was born, the closest we’ve ever, ever been and ever will be,” Diana recalled. “Then, suddenly, as Harry was born, it just went bang, our marriage. The whole thing went down the drain.”
Charles and Diana famously tied the knot in 1981 and were married for 15 years until their 1992 split and eventual 1996 divorce as a result of their 13-year age difference and Charles’ on-and-off affair with his now-wife, Camilla Parker Bowles. Diana opened up about how her life took a turn for the worse shorty after Harry’s birth. “Something inside me closed off. By then, I knew Charles had gone back to his lady,” she said of Charles’ romance with Camilla.

And even though you may think the blonde-haired beauty was blaming Harry for her failed marriage, she famously said in a 1995 BBC interview that being a mom wasn’t the issue, confessing, “There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.”
