Queen Elizabeth Is Hiring a New Buckingham Palace Chef so Get Your Resume Ready

As far as catering jobs go, this is the crème de la crème gig! Buckingham Palace is advertising for a new full-time Chef de Partie, whose responsibilities will include whipping up dishes for Queen Elizabeth and her friends at state dinners and royal receptions.

The role includes live-in accommodations and complimentary meals, which sounds like you will actually be living at Buckingham Palace. There’s a catch, though — if you take up this offer, the pay isn’t stellar. The palace is offeing a yearly salary of $28,693.27, which is nearly $2,713.07 less than the average for a London chef. There are other perks though: a 15 percent pension contribution and 33 vacation days inclusive of bank holidays.

“This is no ordinary Demi Chef de Partie role,” the job description said. “In our state-of-the-art kitchens, you’ll prepare classical and contemporary menus for a wide range of events, learning essential skills that will provide stepping stones for a great career. Joining our accomplished and close-knit team, you’ll work hands-on to deliver food to the very highest standards. Working with quality ingredients and highly skilled colleagues, you’ll develop specific technical skills, rotating through all sections of the kitchen.”

The description also stated that the Chef de Partie will not only cook for royalty and state visits, but also staff lunches, and that they may be required to move around to different royal residences. Interested? Be quick — the application’s due date is May 24!
