Rachael Ray and Husband John Cusimano Get in ‘Huge Screaming Matches’: ‘I Think That’s Healthy’

Rachael Ray revealed that when she and her husband, John Cusimano, get into an argument, they aren’t quiet about it.

“It’s very hard, especially for hot-tempered or creative or vociferous loud people to be able to just calm it down,” Rachael, 56, said during the Tuesday, October 22, episode of her “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” podcast. “John and I don’t calm it down ever. We have huge screaming matches all the time, but I think that’s healthy. I really do. And I don’t trust people that are too quiet.”

Rachael added that a person who’s “too quiet freaks [her] out.”

“I prefer that you tell me what you think when you think it and let’s just get it all out there,” she explained.

When her podcast guest, Jenny Mollen, asked if she is the one to typically apologize first or if it’s John, 57, the cookbook author said the answer was neither.

“I don’t know that we ever apologize to each other,” Rachael replied. “Eventually I pat him on his ass or he kisses me on the head, and that’s just sort of it. That’s the apology. It’s just sort of understood. ‘I still like your ass.’ ‘I still like your head.’ It’s kind of in that zone.”

The Rachael Ray in Tuscany host also gave listeners a little background information on how she and John first met, including the fact that she “thought he was gay.”

“When we met, he had no idea what I did,” Rachael recalled. “He told me what he had made for dinner the night before, and it was so impressive, and he told me he was a lawyer. There’s no way a straight guy knows what tilapia is, or he was trying to spice it up with some homemade tomatillo salsa and he made maque choux spilling out of an avocado on the side.”

The New York native even said that she tried to set John up with a friend before realizing her mistake.

“I said, ‘He’s a great guy’ and I started to describe him, and he said ‘I’m not gay,’” she said. “And I’m like ‘Check, please!’”

Rachael also gave fans a somewhat concerning update regarding her health.

“I am a homemaker. I love chores, I love being in the kitchen. I always work with my brain every day, I’m always writing something,” Rachael explained. “But I really like chores. I like what people consider physical work. I like making dinners, planning dinners, making lists.”

She continued, “I like what people consider physical work. I love physical labor, helping carry in the wood. I’ve had a couple of bad falls in the last couple of weeks, so I haven’t been doing that in a while.”

In September, a clip from Rachael Ray in Tuscany went viral on social media that showed her seemingly slurring her words. The video had plenty of viewers worried about her health. Some believed that the former talk show host had suffered “a mini stroke,” but others felt like there was nothing to be concerned about.

“I don’t hear any slurring but she has compassion in her telling of the story,” one person wrote in the comments section on Instagram. “She’s a good person and her vibes are good.”
