Beloved ‘Dr. Kildare’ Actor Richard Chamberlain Dies at Age 90: Farewell to a Hollywood Legend
Richard Chamberlain, the beloved actor best known for his role as Dr. Kildare in the 1960s TV series, passed away on March 29 at the age of 90. A heartthrob of the era, his portrayal of the young, compassionate doctor made him a household name.
“I was aware this was the answer to all my dreams,” Richard told TV Insider of his breakthrough role.
He continued to find success with TV’s Shōgun and The Thorn Birds, earning him the title “King of the Miniseries” as well as two Golden Globes. In 2003, Richard published his memoir, Shattered Love, in which he courageously came out as gay.
“Over a long period of time, living as if you were someone else is no fun,” he said.
Survived by his longtime partner, Martin Rabbett, Richard’s legacy as a talented actor and a kind, humble man endures.
As he once said, “I’d just like to be remembered as a reasonably nice guy with a sense of humor.”
