Sally is seen here in costume for the sitcom, which ran for three seasons. “I was suffering so badly, I was so depressed, and I was 19 and I didn’t want to be playing something called the Flying Nun, I did not want to be dressed as a nun all day long,” she explained in a 2016 Actors on Actors interview.

1977

Sally starred opposite then-boyfriend Burt Reynolds in the classic film Smokey and the Bandit, which spawned a 1980 sequel.

1980

Sally became an Oscar winner, taking home Best Actress for the union worker drama Norma Rae.
