Savannah Guthrie Says ‘Today’ Is ‘Not the Same’ Without Sheinelle Jones Amid Host’s TV Hiatus

Savannah Guthrie is rallying behind Today costar Sheinelle Jones after the host had to step away from the talk show.

Sheinelle, 46, revealed that she is dealing with a “family health matter” in a post on her Instagram page on Wednesday, January 15. The NBC personality has taken a step back from Today to deal with it, with her colleagues sharing kind words in support.

Savannah, 53, commented on Sheinelle’s post, writing, “We love you so. not the same without you. we will see you soon.” She also shared a message for Sheinelle during Wednesday’s episode of Today while sitting next to Craig Melvin in the show’s early morning hours.

“We know so many of you have been asking about Sheinelle, and missing her, and we miss her, too,” Savannah said during the episode.

Fans also left comments for Sheinelle in support after she made the announcement. The news came after she missed multiple episodes of Today within a span of a few weeks.

“We love and miss you. You’re a bright shiny part of the today show. I send you prayers and hugs to give you strength as you deal with personal matters, but please know that you are truly missed,” one person wrote in a comment on Sheinelle’s Instagram account.

“Your absence is noticed and you are missed. Hoping the extra love and prayers from your fans, lead your family through this time. Everyone is thinking of you,” another person remarked.

“You have been missed and we, your fans have been worried. You are right where you’re supposed to be,” a third commenter said. “I pray for you and your family during this challenging time. Thank you for taking a moment to update us.”

Prior to clarifying the reason for her Today disappearance, Sheinelle had not posted on her Instagram feed since December 16. At the time, she shared a photo posing with her eldest son, Kayin, and President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden at the White House holiday press party, which took place on Sunday, December 15.

“This moment with my oldest son Kayin and @potus and @drbiden transcended politics. I got emotional as the president kindly complimented his attire and then said these words to him with the most sincere eyes – ‘Son, I want to tell you the most important thing. Remember I told you this : always, take care of your mother,’” she reflected in her caption. “Kayin replied ‘I will. Yes sir.’ – It felt like Biden stopped the clock for a second … so we could take it in. I got a little teary when we left that beautifully decorated room. It was a night we’ll always hold dear.”

In addition to Kayin, 15, Sheinelle is also a mom to twins Clara and Uche, whom she shares with husband Uche Ojeh. The mom of three has been a host on Today’s third hour for several years, joining the NBC News team in 2014. Today correspondent Jill Martin is currently filling in for her on the show, as fans wait to see when Sheinelle will be back.
