Scott Baio’s Wife Renee Opens up About Her Microvascular Brain Disease Diagnosis

So heartbreaking. Scott Baio’s wife Renee Sloan took to Twitter on Saturday, March 10 to reveal that she has been diagnosed with microvascular brain disease. The former stuntwoman announced the sad news on social media after a fan asked for an update on her health, and it’s unfortunate that things have taken a turn for the worse.

“Besides having [two] meningioma brain tumors, in Oct. 2017 I also learned I have microvascular brain disease,” the 45-year-old wrote on Twitter. Scott then chimed in, confirming his wife’s health update. “Unfortunately, this is true. Renee is forever my rock, my life [and] my soulmate! Toughest person I know,” he responded.

Fans immediately sent their condolences to the couple. “I hope she gets better so you [two] can have many wonderful years together!” one fan wrote, and another commented, “We can wrap Scott [and] Renee in extra prayers at this time…for sure.”

According to Healthline, microvascular ischemic disease is when there have been changes in the small vessels in the brain, which can cause damage to the white matter —which is the brain tissue that contains nerve fibers. Without treatment, it can cause mental decline, strokes, walking and balance problems, and dementia.

While it’s hard to pinpoint the exact cause of the disease, Scott revealed to The Blast that doctors think it may have to do with Renee’s former career as a Hollywood stuntwoman in the 90s for shows like Baywatch and Pacific Blue.

“She was a former stuntwoman and had a massive brain injury in ’92 due to a jet ski accident. We don’t know if her tumors and this new disease has anything to do with this,” the Happy Days alum said. “All we know is she must live as stress-free, depression-free, and anxiety-free life as possible and a get good amount of sleep each night.”
