Sean Hayes Reveals He Was Recently Hospitalized After His Appendix Burst (So Scary!)

We’re so glad you’re ok, Sean Hayes! During a sit-down on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday, Oct. 25, the Will & Grace star revealed he was recently hospitalized after his appendix burst. “I went to bed at night and all of a sudden I felt this excruciating pain in my stomach. I went to the E.R. and thank God I did. I had a very rare thing where my small intestine burst open, and it was poisoning my body,” he explained to host Ellen DeGeneres.

“So, it burst open and they went in there and they clipped off the bad part and put it back together with like a chip clip, you know?” Sean hilariously continued, adding that doctors performed the laparoscopic surgery through his belly button. “They put you on so many drugs, you’re like high out of your mind,” he said. before a photo of Sean in the hospital flashed across the screen.

“So that’s me in that stupid hospital gown they put you in. Look at that, so sad. In order to get your energy back, they make you do walk around the floor like do laps, right?” Sean continued. “So I’m making nice-nice with the nurses and they’re laughing and I’m like, ‘They must be gigantic fans!’ Well, my bottom was sticking out the whole time!”

Thankfully, Sean’s health is now in tip-top shape as he continues to film the first season of the Will & Grace reboot alongside co-stars Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, and Megan Mullally. “You don’t know if, when a show is over, people still care about it, where it stands. There’s just so much product out there. But then, on the first tape night with the audience’s energy and the awesome screaming, it’s, like, ‘Wow, people still really enjoy the show and want more of it,’ and we’re so thrilled to supply that. The energy that you feel from the audience every single tape night reminds you of how special the show is,” Sean previously said of bringing the show back to NBC.
