Serena Williams Reveals She Told ‘Sweet’ Friend Meghan Markle To ‘Stop Being So Nice’ During Her Pregnancy
A little friendly advice isn’t so bad! Since Meghan Markle recently announced in October that she is expecting her first child with Prince Harry, her good friend, Serena Williams, wanted to give the Duchess of Sussex some helpful tips during their latest conversation.
“I’m like, ‘How are you?’ and she’s like, ‘No, how are?’ and I’m like, ‘You’re so sweet, but I’m really asking — how are YOU?'” Serena recently recalled to People about a chat that she had with the Duchess of Sussex. “I’m like, ‘Meghan, stop being so nice… you’re the pregnant one, aren’t you supposed to have hormones, why are you so sweet?’ But that’s always been her.”
In September 2017, Serena, 37, welcomed her first baby, now one-year-old daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian, with her husband, Alexis Ohanian. Like Meghan, 37, and Harry, Serena and her hubby are also new to marriage — they tied the knot one month after Olympia was born.
While chatting with People, Serena also revealed the advice she’d give to other new moms is “it will come.” She explained, “I don’t know what’s going to happen. I didn’t know how I’m going to have a baby, and it all came. It’s so crazy, I totally changed, and it literally is like a switch. And so, I say that, ‘It will come.'”
As for the tennis star’s relationship with Meghan, the two go way back. “We have known each other for a long time, but we really are relying on each other a lot recently,” Serena revealed in a previous interview with The Project.
Meghan has also gushed about her longtime friend and once told Vogue that she has no doubt Serena will be a great parent to her daughter. “She will be an amazing mom,” Meghan said. “The very best, because she is so attuned to balancing strength and sensitivity. Plus, given that she is pretty epic at karaoke, I think she’ll put her signature Serena spin on singing lullabies for the baby. I can’t wait for that!” How Sweet!
