Shania Twain Opens up About Battle With Lyme Disease: “I Never Thought I’d Sing Again”

Music icon Shania Twain is opening up about a very difficult time in her life. In a new interview, the 52-year-old talked about her alarming Lyme disease diagnosis — and revealed how she thought her career would be ruined after it.

“I never thought I would sing again,” the “That Don’t Impress Me Much” singer told 60 Minutes Australia. It didn’t help that while battling dysphonia as a result of the Lyme disease (which negatively affects the vocal cords) Shania was also going through a divorce with ex-husband, Robert Lange, after rumors of his infidelity spread.

“I was shattered,” she shared. “How many more traumatic moments can I take? I wasn’t just broken, I was shattered.” She added to People in July, “I was very scared for a little while that I wouldn’t sing again, ever. I went through that moment, but I found a way. I found a way to do it.”

And she’s done just that! After a 15-year-long hiatus, Shania has released her new album titled Now. “There are so many challenges in coming back to something you haven’t done in a long time,” she recently shared. “I’m not about to give up now!”

Upon coming back into the spotlight, Shania couldn’t believe how much outpouring love she received from her fans. “I’m really feeling the love. I didn’t realize how appreciated I was,” she said.

Today, she’s feeling better than ever and ready to get back in the game! Just last month, Shania revealed she will be going on tour again in 2018! She opened up about how she feels after her big return: “I felt like I had climbed a huge mountain and was standing on top of it, looking God in the eye, and saying, ‘I’m here! What do I gotta do next?'”
