Sheinelle Jones Is ‘Going Through a Tough Time’ Amid ‘Today’ Hiatus: ‘She’s Hanging in There’

Sheinelle Jones is in her Today costars’ thoughts and prayers as she continues to deal with a private family health matter. Dylan Dreyer revealed that she is in constant contact with her colleague as her absence from the talk show continues.

“She’s doing all right,” Dylan, 43, told E! News at the 2025 Kentucky Derby in Louisville, Kentucky, on May 3. “She’s hanging in there. We’re praying for her and her family. You know, she’s just going through a tough time with her family.”

The meteorologist said that her other Today costars also have been keeping in touch with Sheinelle, 47, throughout her hiatus from TV.

“We talk to her every day,” Dylan told the outlet. “One of us on the team talks to her every single day, and we’re there to support her, and we’ll welcome her back with open arms the second she can get back to us.”

Sheinelle, who last appeared on Today in December 2024, addressed her absence from the show in a January Instagram post.

“I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show. I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter,” she wrote in the post at the time. “It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not on the support of my Today show family, but to also have all of you,” she continued. “Your kindness means so much to me. I’ll see you soon.”

Sheinelle did not include an expected time frame for when she will be back on the show. Recently, Carson Daly was asked about when fans could expect to see the news personality back on the air.

“I don’t know anything about when or timeline [for her return], but we always think about her,” he said during an April 30 interview with Entertainment Tonight. “We talk about her probably every day.”

“We’re wishing her well and she’s spending much-needed time with her family and that’ll just take its course. And there’s so much love going out to her,” the Voice host added.

At the same event, Dylan echoed a similar sentiment while chatting with the outlet.

“We’re all very very close. We chat with her often,” she said about Sheinelle. “A week doesn’t go by where we’re not checking in, seeing how she’s doing. We pray for her all the time, we can’t wait for her to come back, so we’re just waiting for that day to come.”

Al Roker was also in attendance, showing support for Sheinelle and putting an emphasis on how he views his Today colleagues as family.

“The fact of the matter is, we’re so grateful to all the fans and viewers who’ve been praying for her and praying for her family and [she’s] just taking it one day at a time,” he said. “The good news is this is a family and we’ve got each other’s backs and make sure that you’re able to take the time you need to take care of things.”
