Sofia Vergara Says She Is ‘Kind of Single’ After Stepping Out With Handsome Doctor Justin Saliman

Sofía Vergara set the record straight on her relationship status after months of speculation.

The Modern Family actress was asked about previous comments she made about how New York City was the best place to date and if she still felt that way.

“Totally. Actually, I was talking yesterday about it because now I’m single so … kind of single,” she told Us Weekly with a laugh earlier this month, adding, “Anyways.”

She was joined in the interview by her son, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara, whom she welcomed with ex-husband Joe Gonzalez.

“There’s good people everywhere,” Manolo, 33, said. “You’ve got to know where to look.”

His response led Sofía, 52, to clarify her comments about dating in NYC vs. dating in Los Angeles.

“But I feel like there’s a more diverse group of people in New York than in L.A. because most of the people are in the entertainment business,” the Griselda star explained. “Here, you have people from all over the world — architects, writers, actors, businesspeople.”

In January, the America’s Got Talent judge appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she talked about her dating experiences in the Big Apple.

“I love it. Who doesn’t love New York City? The people, it’s the energy,” she shared. “I think that you have more options with men, also.”

“I’m single now, so in New York there are more people,” Sofía said at the time. “There’s not only actors or writers or directors, I think there’s a bigger [pool]. I’m going to spend more time in New York.”

Sofía’s recent comments about dating and being single came after she stepped out in public with Dr. Justin Saliman on multiple occasions. She first posted a photo of Justin in her Instagram Stories in April after getting knee surgery.

“If u ever get a [major] knee surgery make sure u Get a handsome doctor who will sleep with u that night!!!!” Luv u Dr @jdsaliman,” she wrote alongside a photo of him.

After recovering from her knee surgery with Justin by her side, sources told Life & Style that Sofía was very happy.

“Sofía’s living her best life,” an insider told the outlet in August. “She’s spending time with her friends after being stifled in a relationship with a largely unsupportive partner.”

The Golden Globe nominee married Joe Manganiello in 2015, and they announced their split in July 2023.

“Sofía was always there to take care of Joe, while his career was never what it was when they met,” the source added. “I think he’s been threatened by her success and joie de vivre.”

She opened up about what really caused her breakup from Joe, 47.

“My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom,” Sofía told El País in January. “I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore.”

“I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother,” she said at the time. “So, if love comes along, he has to come with [his own] children. I’m almost in menopause; it’s the natural way of things. When my son becomes a dad, let him bring the baby to me for a while and then I’ll give it back to him and go on with my life; that’s what I have to do.”
