Details About Sophia Loren’s First Return to the Big Screen After a Decade Away From the Spotlight!

She’s making a comeback! After being ten years away from the big screen, Sophia Loren is making her return and working with someone quite familiar to her.

The icon will be appearing in her son, director Edoardo Ponti’s film, La vita davanti a sé (The Life Ahead) — the 84-year-old’s first film since 2009’s musical, Nine. Her latest movie will have her star as Madame Rose, a Holocaust survivor who befriends a 12-year-old Senegalese boy. The Oscar winner is already loving working with son.

“He knows me so well. He knows every inch of my face, my heart, my soul. He will only move on to the next shot when I hit my deepest truth,” the legend said, according to Variety.

Sophia shares Edoardo and another son, Carlos, with her husband Carlos Ponti — they tied the knot in 1966 and remained married until he passed away in 2007 due to pulmonary complications.

While she may be up there in age, that hasn’t stop Sophia for leaving it all on the set according to the director. “At 84 she wants to put it all on the line to make a movie that is so deep, so challenging, both emotionally and physically,” Edoardo explained of his mom. “The energy and passion with which she approaches every scene is a marvel to watch.”

The film is currently filming in Italy, and according to the outlet, Sophia finds herself working 10-hour days.

Sophia — born in Rome — has been in the industry since the 1950s, and has crossed paths with many legends, including two that taught her how to speak English: Frank Sinatra and Cary Grant. “I told them right away, ‘I don’t speak any English, please help me,’ and they did!” the star exclusively told Closer Weekly of the famous duo who helped her while filming 1957’s The Pride and the Passion.

“They were beautiful. It was my first [American] film and I didn’t speak one word of English, so it was very difficult for me. But they were really there to help, and in a very nice way,” she added.

We can’t wait to see Sophia’s anticipated return!
