Susan Lucci Reveals Her Favorite of Character Erica Kane’s 8 ‘All My Children’ Husbands
She saved the best for last. Susan Lucci‘s All My Children character, Erica Kane, was legally married eight times, and the actress revealed which husband she thought was the best for the Pine Valley diva.
Susan, 78, thought Erica finally got it right with husband No. 8 – Walt Willey’s Jackson “Jack” Montgomery – she shared during a fan Q&A hosted by Andy Cohen on Tuesday, January 14, People reported. The New York City event marked All My Children’s 55th anniversary.
“Jack Montgomery was the one who wouldn’t leave and couldn’t get out of her life, and she couldn’t walk away from him,” Susan explained. “Although at the end, she was in the crosshairs of that rifle going after Jack because she had left him again. Yeah, I guess Jack.”
The final episode of All My Children ended in a cliffhanger on September 23, 2011. As Erica was about to leave Pine Valley for Hollywood, she chased after Jack while J.R. fired a gun towards them. She was last shown before the screen faded to black, leaving fans to wonder if Erica had been shot and killed.

Erica and Jack married in a May 2005 episode of All My Children. The characters divorced in 2007 but continued to carry a torch for each other.
Susan’s character donned a wedding gown for 11 marriages on the show but only ended up married to eight husbands.
Erica tied the knot with hubby No. 1 Jeff Martin in 1971, divorcing three years later. Her 1976 marriage to Phil Brent ended in divorce the same year. Erica tried her hand at marriage again in 1981 to Tom Cudahy, which was later annulled.
Erica’s most prominent marriage was to Adam Chandler in 1984. After a split in 1986, she married Mike Roy, but it was deemed invalid. Erica married Travis Montgomery twice — in 1988 and 1993 — but both were also invalid. Erica went on to renew her vows with Adam in 1993, but ultimately called it quits. She married and divorced Dimitri Marick twice between 1994 and 1990, and Jack became Erica’s final husband in 2005.
Susan recalled how her TV mom, Frances Heflin’s character Mona, had a favorite of her own. Husband No. 3 Tom — played by Richard Shoberg — was her mama’s best-loved. “She really was rooting for him,” Susan said of her TV mother.

The daytime queen made her debut on All My Children in January 1970 at the age of 22, originating the character of Erica. Susan spent 41 yeas on the show before the long-running ABC soap opera came to an end.
“Erica Kane was a spectacular role for any actress to play, and I felt so lucky to be the one who got to do it,” Susan wrote in her 2011 memoir, All My Life. “To find the part of a 15-year-old girl that was that juicy and had that much potential, I really thought Erica Kane had the possibility to be a modern-day Scarlett O’Hara.”
“I got to do the romance and I got to do the ladies room brawls and the knock-down drag-outs and all of that, so I got to play a lot of range within that part,” she added.
