Suzanne Somers’ Widower Alan Hamel Recalls ‘Passionate Love’ They Had for Each Other

One year after Suzanne Somers’ death from breast cancer, her husband of 46 years, producer Alan Hamel, still misses her touch. “Suzanne and I hugged constantly,” says Alan, 88. “We went to sleep every night holding hands, and in the morning I would always awaken a few minutes before her and I would just lie there, staring at her beautiful face.”

The pair first met in 1969 on the set of TV’s The Anniversary Game, where Suzanne worked as a prize model and Alan hosted. “I look over on the other side of the stage, and I see the most incredible woman I’ve ever seen in my life,” Alan recalls.

Like most married couples, Alan and Suzanne had their share of disagreements over the years, but “we always returned to our passionate love for one another,” Alan insists. “After one of our fights, Suzanne said to me, ‘No matter how bad it gets, let’s never break up.’ And we never did.
