Nearly 50 years after The Young and the Restless premiered on TV back in 1973, the show’s cast — including Peter Bergman, Gina Tognoni, Jordi Vilasuso, Sharon Case, Melody Thomas Scott and Eric Braeden — is revealing their favorite memories from the long-running daytime soap opera in a new exclusive interview with Closer Weekly.

Peter Bergman

Sometimes, breaking up isn’t hard to do. As playboy Jack Abbott, “I’ve had a number of marriages fall apart on the show,” Peter told Closer. “It’s heaven! While I like the weddings and the falling-in-love part, the breakup is so exciting to do as an actor because everyone identifies with it. It isn’t some crazy thing you’re making up.”

Gina Tognoni

“I loved my storyline when I was caught between Jack [Peter Bergman] and Billy [Jason Thompson],” Gina, who plays scheming Phyllis Summers, said. “There’s nothing better than having two men chase you on a soap! It’s the most fun thing to play.” And rewarding, too: “I won a [2017] Daytime Emmy for it,” she shared.

Sharon Case

Her character has endured multiple divorces and mental breakdowns, but “when you love what you do, it doesn’t seem like hard work!” Sharon, who’s played long-suffering Sharon Newman since 1994, said. Her favorite scenes were the “Newman family parties in the early days of the show,” she recalled. “I used to really love those. We’d have a big Thanksgiving dinner table and it felt like family. It really helped me get close with all of my cast mates.”

Jordi Vilasuso

During one episode, “I had a whipped cream fight with Sharon [Case] and Sasha [Calle] that was very messy and fun,” recalled Jordi, whose mysterious Rey Rosales was introduced last August. “After it aired, I cam home from work and my two little girls were screaming, ‘Daddy, let’s have a whipped cream fight!’ It was the sweetest thing.”

Melody Thomas Scott and Eric Braeden

They’ve portrayed Genoa City’s power couple Victor and Nikki Newman for almost 40 years, and fans still can’t get enough. “I’ve had them pick me up right off the ground, spin me around and start sobbing,” Melody told Closer. And how does Eric feel about being No. 1 in the ratings for 30 years straight? “Very grateful,” he admitted. “It says a lot about the foundation that was laid by [creator] Bill Bell.”
