‘Today’ Fans Grow Curious After Hoda Kotb Wears Ring on ~That~ Finger: ‘Definitely Wearing a Ring!’
Could Hoda Kotb and her ex-fiancé, Joel Schiffman, be rekindling their relationship? That’s what some fans think after the Today host was seen fidgeting with a ring on the fourth finger of her left hand.
Hoda, 60, was seen spinning the ring during the Thursday, January 2, episode of Today, and it immediately led to fans speculating that the mom of two and Joel, 66, had gotten back together.
“Did anyone else notice the ring on Hoda’s left hand this morning? I was waiting for an announcement. At one point she was fiddling with it, sliding it up and down. I was really hoping her and Joel were back together,” one Instagram user wrote on the TV personality’s page.
Another added, “Yes she definitely is wearing a ring! Maybe she will make the announcement when everyone is back together on air!”
A third fan said they noticed the jewelry when she was broadcasting from the Rose Parade with her fellow Today host Al Roker.
“I was waiting for her to make an announcement also. She seemed exceptionally giddy this morning and I thought maybe it was because she’s looking forward to her time off after next week. But then I noticed the ring and I wondered if something else was going on,” a separate Today viewer chimed in. “Maybe she will make an announcement soon. She seemed to show the ring at one point and then all of a sudden realize [sic] that maybe she shouldn’t yet and it seemed as though she was hiding her hand from that point on.”
Despite fans’ hopes that Hoda and Joel would get back together after their January 2022 breakup, a source exclusively told Closer the chances were slim.

“As far as a reconciliation goes, which everyone is hoping for, I just don’t think that’s in the cards for them,” the insider explained on December 27, 2024. “Never say never, but they’re both set in their ways and happy with the way things are.”
Hoda and the financier first crossed paths when she was speaking at an event on Wall Street in 2013. They began dating shortly after, but the former couple didn’t confirm that they were in a relationship until two years later.
“I asked someone from the place. I asked, ‘Will you find out his situation?’ Because I didn’t know anything about him … He didn’t have a wedding ring, but that’s all I knew,” Hoda told Andy Cohen in a 2015 appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. “Then she emailed him and he emailed me and asked me out on a date. We’ve been dating for two years.”
Over the course of their relationship, Joel and Hoda adopted two daughters together, Haley Joy in 2017 and Hope Catherine in 2019. Joel popped the question soon after they welcomed Hope into their family, but their love story wasn’t meant to last. While Hoda and Joel initially had to postpone their wedding plans due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the event never took place. Two years later, Hoda shocked fans by announcing that she and Joel had ended their relationship.
