Tom Selleck ‘Doesn’t Want to Burn Through All His Money’ After ‘Blue Bloods’ Season 14

Tom Selleck has spoken freely about the possibility of losing his beloved California ranch following the cancellation of Blue Bloods – and a source says that possibility is weighing heavy on his mind moving into 2025 as he frantically tries to figure out his next career move.

“Tom has made a fortune over the years, but he insists his bank balance isn’t nearly what people might think,” an insider exclusively tells Closer. “And the cost of running a 63-acre farm as a hobby is massive, he’s a sensible guy, he doesn’t want to burn through all his money, in his view if he’s spending that kind of cash he needs to be bringing in a sizeable paycheck or it just doesn’t make sense.”

Tom, who will turn 80 on January 29, currently lives on the ranch with his wife of 37 years, Jillie Mack.

“He certainly doesn’t want to downsize but it is looking like it might be happening sooner than he’d like, especially because his health is also a concern, he’s not doing the work on the farm himself, but it still takes a ton of energy to manage it all,” the source adds. “He’s very attached to his farm so if he does in fact decide he has to sell it will be pretty devastating for him, he’s in his 80s but he’s nowhere near wanting to just give it all up and retire.”

In May, Tom said that he feared he would lose his ranch property as the fate of Blue Bloods was still up in the air.

“You know, hopefully I keep working enough to hold onto the place,” he said during an appearance on CBS Sunday Morning.

Host Tracy Smith asked, “Seriously, that’s an issue? If you stopped working?”

“That’s always an issue,” the Magnum, P.I. actor replied. “If I stopped working, yeah. Am I set for life? Yeah, but maybe not on a 63-acre ranch!”

Since the interview aired, CBS confirmed that Blue Bloods would be officially ending after 14 seasons on the network. The show’s series finale is set for December 13, much to the dismay of fans and the cast members alike.

Tom voiced his frustration about the show ending during an October interview with TV Insider.

“I’m kind of frustrated. During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods but about it still being wildly successful,” he told the outlet.

“My frustration is the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go. So how do I feel? It’s going to take a long time to sort all of this out,” the Emmy winner added. “I remember after the weekend [of the final episode’s shoot], I said, ‘I’ve got to get to bed early tonight because I have to do my dialogue for Monday.’ Well, there was no Monday. It’s just going to take a while.”

Though many are still holding out hope that their favorite Blue Bloods characters will return in a possible spinoff, CBS has not made any official announcements about continuing the franchise just yet.
