Valerie Bertinelli and Boyfriend Mike Goodnough Split After He Posts Cryptic Quotes: Inside Breakup
Valerie Bertinelli and her boyfriend, Mike Goodnough, have split after 10 months of dating.
“They are no longer in a relationship,” a source told People on Tuesday, November 5, of their breakup.
The news came just after Mike, 54, sparked split speculation by posting cryptic quotes on his Instagram page over the weekend.
“If you can go a whole day without talking to me, then go another,” one of the quotes he posted on November 2 said.
“If someone is fine without you, then let them be fine without you,” another post said.
A day later, Mike seemingly responded to speculation that he and Valerie, 64, were on the outs.
“Y’all, for real, the things I post aren’t real-time coded subtweets of my own life. I post things for all kinds of reasons. Sending some coded message about my life at that very second is close to never it. I post things that resonate with me as wise or thoughtful or lessons learned. I post things that I think will strike a chord with other people,” he posted. “Sometimes the things I post strike a chord with me because they have some recent relevance or relate to things that have been on mind. Even when that is the case, my reason for posting them is because I see some value in them beyond my own experience – not because I’m trying to send super secret messages about what is going on with me or in my life that people need to use a decoder ring to figure out.”

“When it comes to stories in particular, what I post is largely influenced by what Instagram serves up to me,” he added. “The algorithm is very stubborn and resists even active efforts to get it to serve a wider diversity of material. So any narrowness in what I post about is a result of the algorithm, not me looking for that specific kind of thing. For real, folks don’t have to try to super sleuth the hidden meaning behind content.”
Mike and Valerie did not respond to Closer‘s request for comment.
Valerie first opened up about her relationship with the writer in April.
“I’m in love,” she told People at the time. “It’s a seesaw of emotions because I was adamant I was never falling in love again.”
“I was supposed to die with my six cats and my dog and very happily live the rest of my years alone — I’m good alone,” she playfully told the outlet.
The Food Network alum, who shares son Wolfgang Van Halen with ex-husband Eddie Van Halen, was in a long-distance relationship with Mike at the time of the interview.
“To make it work, they’re racking up frequent-flier miles!” an insider told Closer in July.
They also stepped out together at the 51st annual Daytime Emmys Awards on June 7 and the 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Creative Arts & Lifestyle Awards on June 8 in the the months prior to their split.
