Vanessa Redgrave, 87, Seen in Rare Video Posted By Daughter Joely Richardson: ‘Grateful’
Vanessa Redgrave shared some kind words in a rare video message posted by her daughter Joely Richardson on social media.
“I asked my Ma if she’d like to send a message for this time of year….#love #everyonesfamily #everylifecounts,” Joely, 59, captioned the video on her Instagram account on Tuesday, December 24.
In the clip, Vanessa, 87, sat in a chair while addressing the camera. She wore a gray blouse with a purple scarf tied around her neck and gray leggings.
“I’m so grateful for this opportunity to send all my love to all the mothers and children and babies who are suffering from war in so many countries of this world,” the Isadora actress said in the video.
“I send my love — it can’t do anything for you. I wish it could. Bless you,” Vanessa added. “Thank you for your love, and I send you every bit I’ve got, except for the bit I save for my family.”
She blew a kiss to the camera while signing off. In the comments section of the post, Joely’s followers were warmed by Vanessa’s sweet message during the holiday season.
“What a beautiful soul! You are blessed to have this lady as your mother!” one person wrote, while another said, “Vanessa this means so much to all of us here who feel pain for all these families,and thank you Joely.”
A third comment said, “Always a beautiful human being, inside and out!”
“Joely, this message rocked me to my foundation – as only Vanessa can. Take care, stay warm. Enjoy the blessedness of the season. Especially for those we cannot help or rescue. My love to you both,” another commenter wrote.
Several celebrities also commented on the post, including Kim Basinger, who wrote, “She’s such a beautiful soul and such a brilliant actress and such a one-of-a-kind human… Boy, how much can you be in this life? thank you Vanessa thank you thank you thank you so so beautiful and such a beautiful message… Forever and always.”
Melanie Griffith also left a comment on the video, writing, “Happy Christmas to you and your Mama Joely.”

Just a few months ago, Vanessa and Joely stepped out for a public appearance together at London Fashion Week. They looked very stylish as they attended the Roksanda Spring 2025 ready-to-wear fashion show at London’s Space House on September 15.
Vanessa wore a taupe trench coat with black slacks and black shoes for the event, while Joely wore a pink coat, sunglasses and blue stockings. The mother-daughter duo posed for photos with other attendees, including Zawe Ashton, in their fashion-forward looks.
The Academy Award winner most recently appeared in the series Call the Midwife in 2024. She has been a part of the show since 2012, appearing in more than 100 episodes over the years. Vanessa also has two projects currently in post-production, according to IMDb.
