Was ‘The Equalizer’ Canceled? Season 6 Plans Foiled After CBS Makes Shocking Decision
Queen Latifah’s The Equalizer aired a jaw-dropping season 5 finale in May 2025. Has the show been renewed for a season 6 or was it canceled?
Was ‘The Equalizer’ Canceled?
The Equalizer was canceled after five seasons on CBS. The season 5 finale served as the series finale. The cast reacted to the show’s cancellation, sharing sentimental posts on social media.
“I am so grateful and moved that you loyal viewers who have so graciously welcomed us into your homes and your lives for 5 extraordinary seasons. Thank you to an amazing crew and cast who have become family. I have loved playing Aunt Vi. Thank you @queenlatifah. The love is so real,” Lorraine Toussaint wrote on Instagram.
Laya DeLeon Hayes also shared a message on her Instagram page, writing, “Thank you to each and every one of you who has watched and supported our show for the past 5 years. @theequalizercbs this show came into my life right before the pandemic and was a dream come true. i am honored to have grown up on this show. playing delilah has been an absolute gift. i am forever changed and eternally grateful.”
Queen Latifah also shared a message to fans on Instagram, thanking everyone for five great seasons of the show.
“Stepping into a kick-ass role like Robyn was everything I hoped it would be. Shakim and I at Flavor Unit are always excited to bring these kinds of roles and projects to life—and then we just hope you love them as much as we do. The Equalizer blew past every dream we had for it, and having the opportunity to do this for five seasons honestly feels surreal,” she penned.
“Thank you to our amazing cast, crew, and producers and writers! And I can’t say enough about the FANS!Y’all have been so loyal, so loud, and so ride-or-die—and that’s exactly why we keep doing this. We can’t thank you enough. It means the world to us,” the post continued. “And don’t worry—I’ll be back kicking ass in something new real soon. Can’t wait to share it with you.”

Was ‘The Equalizer’ Series Finale Planned?
Showrunner Joe Wilson was asked if the season 5 finale was designed to also be the series finale.
“It was definitely on purpose. We didn’t want to end with a cliffhanger,” he told TV Insider in May 2025 after the finale aired. “Shows get a little older. We are going into our sixth season budget, and money becomes an issue. We weren’t sure what was going to happen, and if we did end up on that wrong side, we did not want the fans to feel incomplete or cheated in any way. So we designed it in a way that can feel like an ending, but there’s so much more to unpack.”
He also revealed what would have happened in season 6, hinting that Robyn and Dante would walk down the aisle by saying, “There are wedding bells.”
“We will see that wedding. It is going to be crazier than the proposal,” he said of what would have been in season 6. “It is feature worthy, what we would do with it. And just the continuing, what does their relationship look like equalizing as a family business as she says in this episode. So those are the things we’d focus on.”
