We Finally Know What Melania Trump Gave Michelle Obama on Inauguration Day

Finally! Ever since Donald Trump’s Inauguration last year, fans have been dying to know: What did Melania Trump give Michelle Obama? At the event, we saw Melania gift Michelle with a blue Tiffany & Co. box, but we didn’t know what was in it! And now, the former First Lady is breaking her silence.

Drumroll, please…“It was a lovely frame,” Michelle revealed to host Ellen DeGeneres during her latest visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Hopefully, she put a photo of herself with her husband, Barack Obama, and daughters, Malia Obama, 19, and Sasha Obama, 16, in it.

If you can recall from the January 2017 encounter, Melania awkwardly handed Michelle the present upon her even more awkward arrival with Donald. “Well, there’s all this protocol. I mean, this is like a state visit, so they tell you that you’re going to do this, they’re going to stand here,” Michelle told Ellen. “Never before do you get this gift, so I’m sort of like okay.”

She continued, “What am I supposed to do with this gift? And everyone cleared out and no one would come and take the box. And I’m thinking do we take the picture with? And then my husband saved the day — see he grabbed the box and took it back inside. But everybody cleared out. No staff, no one. I was like what do you do with the box?” It’s so funny to know what was going on during Michelle’s head at that time!

The fact that Michelle and Barack greeted Melania and Donald that day was totally normal even though it may have been awkward. When Barack was sworn into office back in January 2009, former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura Bush, hosted them (and Joe Biden and his wife) for tea in the Blue Room at the White House. On top of that, old footage even shows Michelle giving Laura a gift just like Melania gave to her, and even at the same time. Laura also posed with the gift in the photo after the duo’s awkward encounter. We wonder how Laura felt throughout that moment!
