‘Friends’ Alum Matthew Perry Reveals He Has Been In Hospital For Three Months

What’s wrong with Matthew Perry? The actor, who is best known for his role as Chandler Bing on the hit 90s TV sitcom Friends, has struggled with health issues for the past couple of months now, and he took to social media on Friday, Sept. 14, to share an update with his fans.

“Three months in a hospital bed. Check,” the 49-year-old wrote on Twitter. Fans flooded his mentions and sent him words of encouragement and shared get-well messages.

“Thank you so much for this tweet, it’s so good to hear from you! Hope you’re feeling better each and every day. Stay strong, you got this! We miss you and love you very much,” one fan wrote, while another commented, “Oh man, a GI perf [sic] is horrible. Please rest up [and] be well. We love you man — you have that special way of bringing the laughs [and] the world needs you!”

Matthew has been suffering from a perforation in his gastrointestinal tract, or GP, which is when a hole forms through the stomach, large bowel, or small intestine, according to Healthline. It is a very serious health issue and a life-threatening condition that would require immediate medical attention once diagnosed and some of the symptoms include severe stomach pain, chills, fever, nausea, and vomiting.

Back in August, Matthew underwent surgery to treat his condition and the actor’s rep released a statement to Us Weekly regarding his health. “Matthew Perry recently underwent surgery in a Los Angeles hospital to repair a gastrointestinal perforation,” the rep said at the time. “He is grateful for the concern and asks for continued privacy as he heals.”

This isn’t the first time Matthew has been open about his health issues. Back in 2000, Matthew was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis, which he confirmed to Us Weekly was partly caused by his alcohol abuse.
