Terry Crews Shares When He Thought His Marriage to Wife Rebecca King-Crews Was ‘Over’

Terry Crews opened up about his 35-year marriage with wife Rebecca King-Crews and admitted that he thought their relationship was “over” two decades after saying “I do.”

“We totally rebuilt our relationship,” the America’s Got Talent host, 56, told People in a story published on Monday, February 10. “And we decided we were going to be stronger together. It was a decision that we decided to make.”

Terry touched on the misconception that “love is about feelings,” but instead shared that love is “work” and a “skill” that each partner has to actively “get better at.”

“It’s wild because there was a point when, when I wanted to quit, she didn’t want to, and then when she wanted to quit, I didn’t want to,” Terry later told the outlet. “And I was just glad we didn’t want to quit at the same time.”

After Terry got real about the hardships in marriage, he also gushed about the beautiful aspects of his union with Rebecca, 59. In fact, the White Chicks actor gushed that they have checked every romantic box to celebrate Valentine’s Day. So, these days, DIY presents and exchanges are how they share their love with one another.

“I truly believe in a homemade meal that I cook, that I do, I set the table,” Terry shared. “It’s about the human touch. It’s about the effort.”

Terry and Rebecca met while attending Western Michigan University in the 1980s. The couple tied the knot in 1989 and later welcomed five kids, daughter Naomi Crews, Azriél Crews, Tera Crews, Winnie Crews and Isiah Crews.

The pair hold their children near and dear to their hearts after Rebecca experienced three miscarriages when they were attempting to expand their family.

Terry isn’t the only one who has opened up about the struggles in the marriage as the family matriarch previously shared that “faith” has helped their relationship blossom.

“There’s a certain kind of person we’re both trying to be and then faith in the fact that we chose each other for a reason,” Rebecca told Daily Mail in October 2024. “It’s funny because we’ve talked about this, because we’ve had probably two or three instances [where] we could have ended the marriage, in 35 years. Each time we were in those crises, one of us wanted out, but the other one didn’t, so the other one fought.”

Echoing Terry’s statement with People, Rebecca detailed the moments when their family almost fell apart.

“So, the first time I wanted out, he fought for me. The second time he wanted out and I fought for him, and the third time he just had to come clean about his addiction and I kicked him out,” she continued to the publication of Terry’s former pornography addiction. “He fell on the floor like a 2-year-old and begged me not to leave him and I said, ‘Well you blew that, you know,” and he went to work on himself and he’s a better person, but he can still get better.”
