Al Roker and Wife Deborah Share the Sweetest Love Story! Meet the ‘Today’ Star’s Longtime Spouse

She’s a Georgia Native

Deborah was born on September 20, 1960. The beauty was raised in Perry, Georgia, to her business owner father, Benjamin Roberts, and mom, Ruth Roberts.

Deborah Studied Journalism

Deborah, who shares kids Leila and Nicholas with Al, got her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. She reportedly graduated in 1982, and 10 years later, she was awarded with the University of Georgia Distinguished Alumnus Award for her inspiring career in 1992.

She’s Accomplished

Deborah began her career in journalism when she started working at local television stations in the early 1980s. After reporting the news in Georgia, Tennessee and Florida, she joined NBC News as a general-assignment reporter in 1990. She later served as the correspondent for Dateline.

In 1995, she left NBC for ABC when she landed a gig on 20/20. Since then, Deborah has appeared on World News Tonight, Good Morning America and she’s also guest-hosted ABC’s talk show The View. She’s even won an Emmy Award for her contributions on GMA.

In September 2023, Deborah was announced as the replacement anchor for Amy Robach on 20/20.

“Once you have really planted yourself firmly into a program like this as I have over the years, you look for more,” she told Variety after the announcement was made. “You always feel like you have a little more ownership of a program, and more of a say in what it’s all about.”

She Lives in New York City With Al

Al and Deborah live with their kids in a beautiful brownstone building that they’ve owned for nearly two decades. The property, which is located in the center of New York City, is five stories and includes a plethora of lavish amenities. The duo also owns another house just outside of the Big Apple in the Hudson River Valley.

Deborah Is a Runner

Deborah loves being active and spending time outdoors. Before meeting Al, she would frequently go for runs, a regimen that inspired the weatherman during his weight loss journey. He underwent gastric bypass surgery in 2002 and loves joining his wife for runs when he’s not in front of the camera.

“My wife’s been a runner for 30 years, and I started running two years ago, and within a year I ran the New York City Marathon,” Al shared with Today in January 2013. “It kind of ticked her off a little bit; she said, ‘Wait a minute, I’m the runner in the family!’ But that’s a good problem to have.”
