Who Are Sutton Foster’s Ex Husbands? Meet the Former Flames of Hugh Jackman’s Rumored New Girlfriend
Two-time Tony winner Sutton Foster is also a two-time divorcée: first married to actor and singer Christian Borle and then to screenwriter Ted Griffin.
The Broadway actress, 49, is currently linked to her hunky The Magic Man costar Hugh Jackman, which has some fans wondering if the alleged affair caused her most recent marriage to break up.
Who Is Christian Borle?
Christian, 51, is a Pennsylvania native and stage actor sporting an impressive list of accomplishments. Nominated for five Tonys and winning two – one for his roles as Black Stache in Peter and the Starcatcher and the other as William Shakespeare in Something Rotten! – the Carnegie Mellon alum is widely respected in the theater space and also has some credits in film and television.
He met his future ex wife Sutton while studying for his BFA in college. They married on September 18, 2006.
They would go on to divorce in 2009, with the actress telling CBS News in December 2016 her split was rough for a while.
“I kept equating it to, like, someone took my purse and dumped it out on the sidewalk. And it was all my stuff everywhere,” she said. “And for three years I was sludging through mud to sort of rebuild myself and my relationships.”
Though they remained friends and kept supporting each other’s careers as exes, with Christian telling Time Out in an April 2012 interview that he’s still excited for his ex wife’s success.
“As life took its crazy winding turns and we ended up not being married anymore, it was always a priority for us to stay friends,” the actor said. “I just saw her before she headed off for her big L.A. adventure [as the star of the ABC Family series Bunheads].”
Who Is Ted Griffin?
Ted, 53, began his career writing screenplays and made a name for himself with the blockbuster smash Ocean’s 11 and wildly popular cop drama The Shield. He’s since moved up the ladder to producing, including coproducing the Martin Scorsese hit The Wolf of Wall Street.
He was married to Sutton for 10 years, from October 2014 until she filed for divorce in October 2024.
The two met on a blind date a few years after she had divorced from her first husband. They have one child together, daughter Emily, 7, who they adopted in 2017 after years of struggling with fertility.
“IVF was full of disappointment and heartbreak, adoption was so clearly what was meant to be for us,” the actress told People in 2018.
Rumored Affair With Hugh Jackman
The actress began working with Hugh, 56, on the Broadway revival of The Magic Man in 2022. According to a source speaking with Us Weekly, their rumored romance “is the reason” he divorced Deborra-Lee Furness in September 2023.
A different source previously told Closer that Sutton’s “connection with Hugh was something no one saw coming,” adding, “They fell in love, plain and simple.”
Now that Sutton has filed for divorce from Ted, Tasha Lustig has claimed the two are preparing a “soft launch” of their new romance sans spouses in a post “liked” by Hugh’s ex Deborra.
