Kris Kristofferson didn’t have any issues singing love songs when he had the inspiration of his wife, Lisa Meyers. The A Star is Born actor lived a joyous life with his third spouse before his death in September 2024.

Kris fell in love with the attorney in the early ’80s. After splitting from his second wife, Rita Coolidge, in 1980, the “Me and Bobby McGee” songwriter wasn’t in a place to start a new relationship. However, that all changed when he crossed paths with Lisa in 1982.

Despite feeling reluctant to give love another shot after two failed unions — he was also previously married to his first wife, Fran Beer, from 1960 to 1969 — Kris couldn’t deny the connection he felt with Lisa. Following their instant attraction, the two started dating, and after one year, they tied the knot in an intimate and romantic ceremony in the Pepperdine University chapel, according to several outlets.

Lisa Was 20 Years Younger than Kris

Lisa was born on September 29, 1956, according to reports, while Kris’ birth date was June 22, 1936. This made Lisa 20 years younger than him, but the two did not let the gap get in the way of their unbreakable bond.

Lisa Is an Attorney

After receiving her law degree from Pepperdine University, Lisa became an attorney, according to reports. As of today, it’s unclear if Lisa is still practicing law.

Lisa Is a Mom and Stepmom

Lisa and Kris welcomed five children together — Jesse Kristofferson, Jody Kristofferson, Johnny Robert Kristofferson, Kelly Marie Kristofferson and Blake Cameron Kristofferson. However, Lisa is also a loving stepmom to Kris’ older kids, whom he welcomed during his previous marriages.

Kris Quickly Fell in Love With Lisa

Though having a relationship was the last thing on Kris’ mind when he bumped into Lisa at a gym in 1982, he knew he just met someone special. “At the time, I was gun-shy about any relationship heavier than a one-night stand,” he told People in 1998. “The road had been my escape, going out and pouring it all into performing.”

Lisa and Kris Lived in Hawaii Before His Death

Kris announced his retirement from the music industry in 2021, and after that, he had been enjoying the quiet life with Lisa at their longtime home in Maui, Hawaii.

“His health is good,” Kris’ manager, Tamara Saviano, exclusively told Closer Weekly in February 2021. “He’s enjoying time with his family.”

In September 2024, Kris’ family announced that he had died in their Maui home at age 88.

“It is with a heavy heart that we share the news our husband/father/grandfather, Kris Kristofferson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28 at home. We’re all so blessed for our time with him. Thank you for loving him all these many years, and when you see a rainbow, know he’s smiling down at us all,” the statement said.
