The TV personality and publisher tied the knot in 1961. When Martha and Andrew got married, they still had career goals that they wanted to accomplish, not knowing that the bride would turn into a household name and full-blown celebrity.
“He helped me a lot; I admit it. I helped him a lot also and he forgets that,” Martha previously told New York Magazine. “Well, I did a lot. I think he got tired of my drive and desire to do lots of things.”

Martha and Andrew share one child, daughter Alexis. The former couple welcomed their little girl in 1965.
During the 2024 documentary Martha, the A-lister admitted that motherhood wasn’t a “natural” task for her.
“Back then everybody was having babies so young. That was sort of like the style and the habit. I thought it was a natural thing and it turns out, it’s not at all natural to be a mother,” Marta shared, later explaining that she didn’t grow up in an affectionate household.
“Feelings, we didn’t talk about stuff like that. That wasn’t part of our growing up. We were loved sort of obtusely when we were supposed to be loved. I mean, there was not a lot of affection in our house,” she continued. “How could I be a really great mother if I didn’t have the education to be a mother?”
Why Did Martha and Andrew Stewart Divorce?
Martha and Andrew ended their 25-year marriage in 1987. They finalized their divorce three years later.
During the final years of their marriage, Martha connected the dots on her husband’s affair with her assistant Robyn Fairclough. Martha opened up her guest house to Robyn, which ended up being the place she and Andrew divulged in their affair when Martha was away on business.
The New York Times bestselling author confronted Andrew about the affair, but was willing to fight for their marriage. In her documentary, however, Martha revealed that Andrew was on board to divorce. Producers revealed that Andrew claimed not to have started cheating on Martha until he learned that she did. She admitted to kissing a man during her honeymoon with Andrew and having a “brief” affair with an Irish man in the 1960s.
That said, Martha claimed to believe that Andrew was not aware of her infidelity.
“He was not satisfied at home,” Martha said in the documentary. “I don’t know how many different girlfriends he had during this time, but I think there were quite a few.”
Did Andrew Get Married After Martha Stewart Divorce?
Andrew turned his affair with Robyn, who is 21 years his junior, into a union when they got married in 1993. They eventually divorced.
Andrew married his third wife, Shyla Nelson Stewart, in 2016. They are still married as of publication.
