Whoopi Goldberg Reveals ‘The View’ Is Not Enough for Her As An Actress: ‘I’m Starting to Do Other Stuff’

She wants more! Whoopi Goldberg is currently a staple on the news panel at The View, but the actress recently admitted that her work on the program isn’t enough to satisfy her creative urge.

The 63-year-old sat down with The New York Times and revealed that the popular ABC show is simply a “job” to her. “What you’re asking is ‘Is The View enough?’ It’s not,” the comedian told the outlet. “Ten years is a long time, and now I’m starting to do other stuff. I’m doing books. I’m adventuring into THC products. I’m creating the clothes.”

Although, while her time on the news program isn’t exactly a part in a film, Whoopi did reveal that it feels like a performance to her. “In a way, I am playing a role. These are not conversations that I’m having with my friends. If they were, we’d be doing it differently. My friends and I can talk about things in depth in a different way than you can on television,” she explained.

“You can’t create a career,” the Oscar winner added. “It goes where it goes. In fact for a long time, people could not figure out how I actually got a career. Which is a bit of a put-down.” Even though she has been on The View since 2007, Whoopi was already one of the most successful actors in Hollywood — she is quite known for her roles in Sister Act and its sequel, Ghost, The Color Purple and for lending her voice to the classic animated film, The Lion King.

Aside from her career, Whoopi is also a mother — she welcomed her only child, daughter Alex, in 1973 with her then-husband Alvin Martin. The A-lister has been married three times in her life, with her most recent to actor Lyle Trachtenberg (1994-1995).

“Look, people expect you to have a boyfriend. They expect you to get married,” Whoopi recently said. “So I kept trying to do that, but I didn’t want to share information with somebody else. I didn’t want anybody asking me why I was doing what I was doing, or to have to make the other person feel better.”
