Wynonna Judd Doesn’t Want to ‘Count Calories’: ‘Comfort Eating’ Has Been Her ‘Downfall’
Now that Wynonna Judd is on break from her tour, she’s enjoying family time — and all the good food that comes with it.
“Comfort eating has always been Wynonna’s downfall in the past,” a source exclusively tells Closer of the 60-year-old “I Want to Know What Love Is” singer.
Wynonna has been through a lot of family heartache in recent years. The musician was left devastated in April 2022 when she lost her mom and singing partner, Naomi Judd, to suicide on the eve of the duo’s induction to the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Her daughter, Grace Kelley, has also had multiple run-ins with the law. The 28-year-old, who plead guilty and was jailed for public lewdness in April, was arrested in August for attempting to elude a police officer and driving with a suspended/revoked license (she was released on a $2,750 bond; no other details have been publicly reported).
Due to all the stress that Wynonna has been under, the singer has seemingly turned to food to ease the pain.
“She’s done with yoyo dieting and just wants to enjoy her life, get some much-needed R&R and eat what she wants and not count calories,” the Closer source says.
After all, “She’s been through hell with her mom Naomi’s death and the aftermath and her daughter’s continuing troubles with the law,” the source explains, adding that Wynonna just wants to “stay at home” for a bit, “cook for her family and take care of her granddaughter and the farm.”
Because Wynonna’s daughter, Grace, has been in and out of jail since 2017, the country star raises granddaughter Kaliyah, 2.

Wynonna “gets so much joy” out of Kaliyah, says the insider, adding, “She wants to be there for her in the way she wasn’t always there for Grace. These last few months have taught Wynonna to prioritize, and staying on a diet just isn’t important anymore.”
A separate source told Closer in August that friends, including country superstar Dolly Parton, have been worried about Wynonna since the tragic loss of her mother.
“[Wynonna has] been very fragile following the death of her mom, now her daughter Grace situation is getting worse and giving her immeasurable grief,” the source said. “Wynonna has a lot of friends in the country community and they’re all checking in on her and worrying about her. They’ve been there round the clock. Dolly calls to give her pep talks and others call to give her doses of spirituality to help calm her down or just listen. Wynonna has been through tough times, and she’s spiraled into the darkest place now.”
The insider continued, “She’s freaked out and panicked and desperately upset and struggling to cope with her schedule on top of her relationship with her daughter. She needs all the help she can get now, and her friends are phoning her, inviting her to dinner and sending care packages. They’ve got Wynonna’s back.”
Wynonna is scheduled to get back on the road in December. The singer will play three shows from December 11-14 at The Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas.
