Both William and Kate May Take Prince George to His First Day of School This Year

Back to school time is almost here! When Prince George, 5, started his first year at London’s Thomas’s Battersea last fall, the little royal was accopanied by only his dad, Prince William. At the time, George’s mom, Kate Middleton, was again battling severe morning sickness at the start of her third pregnancy and was too ill to attend the school drop-off with her eldest son. 

But lucky for us, George is expected to be taken to his first day of school by both his mom and dad this year. According to People, George will start class on Thursday, Sept. 6 and while Kate, 36, and William, also 36, will reportedly attend the drop-off, George’s return to school will likely be much less publicized than his first year. 

In early September 2017, George was photographed timidly walking into Thomas’s Battersea hand-in-hand with his dad, William, and the head of the lower school, Helen Haslem. For the occasion, the future King of England looked adorable in his navy blue and red school uniform that included a sweater, a light blue button-down shirt, shorts, socks, and a cute pair of leather loafers. 

That day, a royal insider told the Daily Mail, “The Duchess wanted more than anything to be there. It’s a big day for her son. But she has been really very sick this week. But William proved to be the perfect support for his firstborn, dropping him off in the family’s Range Rover and walking him right to his classroom.”

A few days after George’s school debut, William sweetly told royal reporters that his son’s first day of class “went well!” He added, “[It was a] good day. It went well. There was one other parent who had more of an issue with their children so I was quite pleased I wasn’t the one. It was really nice actually. It’s a nice school.”

While it was unfortunate that Kate had to miss George’s very first school drop-off, the mom-of-three reportedly took her little boy to Thomas’s Battersea just one day after giving birth to Prince Louis in April. 

Thankfully, when Kate and William do step out to accompany George — who is known as George Cambridge to his classmates! — to school, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge don’t draw as much attention as you’d think. “No one really gives Kate a second glance when she does the school drop-off. We have a Victoria’s Secret model doing the school run, too, and the dads are far more interested in her,” an insider told the Daily Mail.
