Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip Are Not Attending Prince Louis’ Christening

This is awkward! Prince Louis’ christening is today, Monday, July 9, but his great-grandparents won’t be in attendance for the special event. It’s been confirmed that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are sadly passing on the two-month-old’s baptism.

But it’s not due to their recent poor health. Instead many are thinking it could be because of Elizabeth’s busy schedule. According to People, it’s a decision that Elizabeth and Kate Middleton “mutually agreed upon some time ago.”

Elizabeth, 92, previously attended Prince George’s christening in 2013 and Princess Charlotte’s christening in 2015, so royal fans are especially surprised that she’s sitting Louis’ out. However, the two-month-old’s six godparents and their spouses, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, Michael and Carole Middleton, Pippa Middleton and James Matthews, and James Middleton will all be at the special ceremony, Kensington Palace previously announced.

Philip previously retired from the royal life last fall, but has attended different events here and there (like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding) following his recent hip injury. However, Elizabeth has been slammed with events recently. And on June 28, she had to cancel an appearance because she was feeling “under the weather.” On top of that, this Tuesday she has an event to celebrate the 100th birthday of the Royal Air Force and on Friday, she’ll be hosting US President Donald Trump at Buckingham Palace.

However, a source recently told Closer Weekly exclusively that Elizabeth plans to step down from the throne very soon. “She has a sense of duty and originally planned to see it through to the end,” a senior courtier told Closer, “but she has broken all the records and has nothing left to prove.” We’ll miss her and Philip today, that’s for sure!
